Neil began his early career as an illustrator and graphic artist working in print, publishing, and new media. From illustrating product catalogues to producing maps and diagrams during the Gulf War, he worked in a range of media and quickly embraced the wave of computer technology as it spread into the graphic art industry.

Having spent many years as a designer for traditional media, retail packaging, and then the internet from the mid 90′s, work has, in recent years, involved increasingly technical disciplines, designing content management solutions and online applications.

But the siren song of a more creative life has broken the surface and since 2008, Neil has turned to less commercial work, rediscovering the technical, enhanced realism styles in which he once illustrated, but also exploring new paths with abstract art in 2009.

In October 2009, Neil was accepted as an Associate Member of the Society for Graphic Fine Art, a small, select membership organisation created in 1919 to promote drawing and draftsmanship in art.

This website presents a broad spectrum of work from the precise, detailed pencil works, to expressive drawings in charcoal and mixed media, as well as explorations of abstract imagery with works in watercolour, mixed media, and acrylic.

Neil cites his inspirations as Picasso, Miró and Dalí to more contemporary artists such as Katy Moran, Cy Twombly, and Jenny Saville, though such influences are not immediately apparent in most of his work.
